11.6 Conclusion
This chapter discusses Perl’s implementation of cryptographic techniques. Perl provides implementation of several hash or message digest algorithms, several conventional cryptographic algorithms, and the public-private key algorithm called the RSA. It also provides implementation of some digital signature algorithms. The topics are fairly involved and our discussion here is brief. An interested reader is advised to read books on cryptography to find more details. Some such books are Cryptography and Network Security, Principles and Practice [Sta99], Handbook of Applied Cryptography [MvOV96], ICSA Guide to Cryptography [Nic99], and Security in Computing [Pfl96]
